On this date Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation two years prior. Albeit late, former </span></span></span></span></span><span><span style="box-sizing:border-box"><span style="color:#333333"><span style="Helvetica,Verdana"><span style="background-color:#ffffff">slaves celebrated the news with dance, song, and feasting.
